The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season is very well into its second week of the season. It was an amazing opening to the season with Chennai Super Kings starting their title defense with a win.

With the pitch playing well, the batters made merry with the bat as batting seemed to be easy. Sanju Samson in particular stole the show with his amazing 82 for Rajasthan Royals against the Lucknow Super Giants.

While some of the bowlers struggled there were a few who aided their team with the ball in the 1st week. There were a few bowling performances that played a key role in teams either winning the games or at-least making the score look respectable.

Here we take a closer look at the bowling attacks of all the ten teams from the first week of IPL 2024:

10. Mumbai Indians -1.5/10

If we leave out the three-wicket haul by Jasprit Bumrah, the Mumbai Indians bowlers were completely out of sorts. Debutants Luke Wood, Gerald Coetzee, and Shams Mulani looked lost. Piyush Chawla didn’t produce the amazing bowling feats that he did during IPL 2023 for the five-time IPL winners.

9. Lucknow Super Giants – 2/10

KL Rahul was back at the helm of affairs leading his LSG side in the opening game of the season against Rajasthan Royals. The normally dependable Giants' bowling attack looked pedestrian and short of ideas thanks to Sanju Samson’s brilliant assault with the bat.

8. Royal Challengers Bengaluru – 2/10

Faf Du Plessis was left nodding his head in shock when RCB took on Chennai Super Kings in the first game of IPL 2024. The normally economical Mohammed Siraj was carted around then park as were the rest of the bowlers. Debutant Cameron Green was the only saving grace for RCB as the Aussie picked two wickets with the ball.

7. Sunrisers Hyderabad – 3.5/10

Pat Cummins marked his return to the Indian Premier League with a visit to his old team KKR. The Aussie skipper led the team and saw his side painstakingly fall short of the target by a mere 4 runs. T Natarajan picked 3 wickets and made sure his return to the IPL was successful. Veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar struggled with the ball as he was the most expensive bowler of the night.

6. Delhi Capitals – 4/10

It was a happy moment for many cricket fans as Rishabh Pant made his return to the cricket field. The 26-year-old would have wished for a better return as he saw his team lose to Punjab Kings. Barring the efforts of Kuldeep Yadav none of the Delhi bowlers could dent the PBKS batting unit.

5. Kolkata Knight Riders – 5/10

When a team has three amazing T20 spinners, it should dominate the best teams in the park. It was young Harshit Rana who won the game for KKR though as he picked 3 wickets. The right-arm pacer also happened to defend 7 runs needed from 5 balls to help his side win the contest.

4. Punjab Kings – 6/10

If we ignore the assault by Abhishek Porel, the Punjab Kings bowlers were the better team with the ball against Delhi. Arshdeep Singh and Harpreet Brar bowled well to get three key wickets amongst themselves. It was enough for Shikhar Dhawan who saw his side restrict DC to 174/9 from 20 overs.

3. Rajasthan Royals – 7/10

Sanju Samson was a happy camper as he saw his side start the IPL 2024 season with a 20-run win against Lucknow Super Giants. Trent Boult was at his best with the ball getting two early scalps. Sandeep Sharma, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Ravichandran Ashwin then did their job with the ball to help RR win the contest.

2. Gujarat Titans – 8/10

With Mumbai Indians needing 43 runs from 30 balls, common wisdom suggested the chasing team would win the game. Mohit Sharma though had other plans as he picked 2 key scalps to turn the tide in favour of the Titans. His wicket of Dewald Brevis changed the game and helped the IPL 2022 winners romp home by 6 runs.

1. Chennai Super Kings – 9/10

It was a fantastic debut for Mustafizur Rahman with the Chennai Super Kings. The Bangladeshi star picked 4 wickets on debut and got good help from Ravindra Jadeja to restrict RCB to 173. The left-arm pacer picked the wickets of Virat Kohli, Faf Du Plessis, and Rajat Patidar before dismissing Cameron Green on a memorable day with the ball.
