The renowned Indian Premier League (IPL) is known for its high-octane clashes, showcasing a thrilling mix of Indian and overseas talent. Each franchise is allowed to have a squad of up to 25 players, comprising 17 Indian players and 8 overseas players. However, in the playing XI, a maximum of only four overseas players can be included alongside seven Indian players. This rule provides opportunities for young Indian cricketers to develop their skills on a big stage.

In certain IPL seasons, some franchises have opted to use a minimal number of players throughout the tournament and have still gone on to win the title. This strategy of relying on the same core group of players is challenging and risky, but a few teams have successfully executed it and lifted the coveted IPL trophy.

Here, let us take a look at the teams that used the fewest number of players in a season and still emerged as IPL champions.

Here are IPL Teams that won title using fewest players in playing XI:

The Shah Rukh Khan co-owned Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have won the IPL title three times in the 17-year history of the tournament. One of their most remarkable triumphs came in the 2014 season when they utilised just 17 players from their entire squad to clinch the trophy. After a poor start, losing five of their first seven matches, KKR staged an excellent comeback with nine consecutive victories.

Led by Gautam Gambhir and boosted by the consistent performances of Robin Uthappa, the team found its rhythm in the latter part of the tournament. In the final, KKR successfully chased down a challenging target of 200 runs, with a brilliant 94-run knock by Manish Pandey. This turnaround helped KKR secure their second IPL title.
