2. Shane Watson’s 52 against Delhi Capitals (DC) in 2008

Shane Watson played an instrumental role in RR’s title victory in the inaugural IPL instalment. The Australia all-rounder chipped in with 472 runs and 17 wickets in the Royals’ sensational campaign. In the semi-final against Delhi Capitals (then Delhi Daredevils), he delivered a breathtaking all-round performance to RR.
In the marquee game, Delhi captain Virender Sehwag won the toss and invited RR to bat first. Sehwag’s decision backfired as Watson came to bat at number four and pounded Delhi’s quality bowling attack. The Aussie played a swift knock of 52 off 29 and helped his team reach a score of 192.
Following the stupendous knock, Watson punished Delhi with the ball. He got rid of Delhi’s top-order batters Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, and Shikhar Dhawan and put Delhi on a back foot. In the end, RR bundled out Delhi on a mere 87 and went back home with a 104-run victory. Watson, the hero of the contest, got the Player of the Match award.
