Salem Spartans (SS) kicked off their journey in TNPL as Tuti Patriots but with the change of ownership in 2019, the team was renamed Salem Spartans. M. Selvakumar of Vivo Chennai South Distributor spent INR 5.21 crore and acquired the rights of the franchise from Thoothukodi Sports and Entertainment LTD.

Spartans represent the Salem district of Tamil Nadu and in 2022, they played under the captaincy of Murugan Ashwin. In the 2021 edition of the league, they ended their journey in the seventh position. While in 2022, they ended up as the worst-performing side in the competition, concluding their campaign in the eighth spot.

In 2016, Spartans won the inaugural season of the league as Tuti Patriots under the captaincy of the veteran Dinesh Karthik. After getting a new identity, the Spartans’ performance has plummeted but in the upcoming 2023 season, they will look to improve their performance and lift the trophy after seven years.
