MS Dhoni has been India's most successful skippers in international cricket. His wonderful captaincy skills have won the nation a whole lot of global tournaments like T20 World Cup 2007, World Cup 2011, and Champions Trophy 2013. His prowess with the bat and behind the stumps has left behind an enduring legacy in the world of cricket.

His achievements are not just limited to international cricket. As of the completion of the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League, Dhoni has been the joint-most successful skipper in the history of the marquee league. With five titles and countless memorable moments with Chennai Super Kings, he ensured he was among the prominent faces of the marquee league.

Dhoni has represented India in 90 Tests (144 innings), 350 ODIs (297 innings), and 98 T20Is (85 innings). In all, he has scored over 17,000 runs across international cricket. He also has 829 dismissals with the gloves to his name, automatically putting himself into a storied list of all-time great wicketkeepers. Other than his cricketing achievements, his on-field demeanour has stood out to be really inspiring too.

What is MS Dhoni doing right now?

Dhoni last featured in IPL 2025 for CSK. He took over the baton of captaincy upon himself after Ruturaj Gaikwad was sidelined from the tournament around the halfway mark of the tournament. CSK had a forgettable season considering all departments. They ended up finishing last on the points table for the first time in their 16-season history.

When asked about his cricketing future post the completion of CSK's final group-stage game, he was quite vague with his response. The 43-year-old had stated that he would take a few months to assess his physical condition and only then would be take a final call on his future in the IPL. Dhoni has only been playing the IPL ever since retiring from international cricket in 2020.

How did MS Dhoni fare in IPL 2025?

In 13 innings for CSK in IPL 2025, Dhoni scored 196 runs at a strike rate of 135.17 with 12 fours and as many sixes under his belt. His highest score was an unbeaten 30. This was also the fourth consecutive season that he had registered a double-digit number of sixes in the IPL. Whenever Dhoni was at the crease, there was immense anticipation amongst the CSK fans.

When will MS Dhoni play for India next?

As mentioned above, Dhoni had already hung up his boots on August 15, 2020. His last gig with the Indian team was in the capacity of mentor during the T20 World Cup in 2021. He has not really shown any inclination towards the coaching side of things as of now.

However, that hasn't stopped fans from hoping for a comeback by Dhoni in the form of head coach or batting coach. Although there is a bleak possibility of this occurring as of now, it would be wrong to completely rule out such an event.
