WPL 2024: Predicting where each team will finish at the end of the league stage

The second season of the hugely popular Women’s Premier League (WPL 2024) is upon us. The tournament will kick off on February 23 with the final scheduled on March 17, 2024. There will be five teams- Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and UP Warriorz participating. 

Mumbai Indians will be defending their title which they won in WPL 2023. The matches will be played at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru and Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in New Delhi, with the latter to host the knockout stages.

However, all the eyes will be on which team ends up at which position on the WPL 2024 points table. The WPL 2024 auction in India saw the franchises filling their squads with the best of the women players around the world with the cream of Indian cricket getting the preference.

With this in mind, let’s have a prediction of which team will finish in what position at the end of the WPL 2024 league stage.

5. Gujarat Giants (GG)

The Gujarat Giants feature a promising mix of experience and youth. Their opening pair of Beth Mooney and Laura Wolvaardt provides consistency, while all-rounders Ashleigh Gardner and Sneh Rana add diversity. Their bowling assault is well-balanced in terms of pace and spin, making it adaptable to various situations. However, with crucial players fresh to the WPL, adjusting to the league's intensity could be difficult.

But their point of concern will be their inexperienced pace attack. It is fairly new and could be tested against good batting combinations. Overreliance on foreign players also offers a risk if they sustain injuries or have international commitments. Regardless of this uncertainty, the Giants have the potential to be a surprise package if their young players step up and senior players provide effective leadership.
