Before the second Women’s Premier League (WPL) edition, all five franchises had a chance to rebuild their teams in the 2024 WPL auction held in Mumbai. At the important event, some franchises grabbed this opportunity with both hands and stole the show eventually with their stellar purchases.

Talking about players, Annabel Sutherland and Kashvee Gautam became the talk of the town after receiving a lucrative contract of INR 2 crore from Delhi Capitals (DC) and Gujarat Giants (GG) respectively. After witnessing the blockbuster action at the business event, let’s rate the squads of all five franchises.

Here are the ratings of all five teams based on their final squads

5. UP Warriorz- 7/10

UP Warriorz (UPW) already had experienced players such as captain Alyssa Healy, Tahlia McGrath, Sophie Ecclestone, and Rajeshwari Gayakwad in their squad, and in the auction, they added another veteran player Danni Wyatt to their team. The England stalwart was fetched for INR 30 lakh by the franchise.

Wyatt has the potential to deliver scintillating numbers to the team with her sensational batting skills. The franchise also bought India’s uncapped all-rounder Poonam Khemnar, who plays domestic cricket for Nagaland Women. UP have also invested a heavy sum of  INR 1.3 crore in Vrinda Dinesh, who has proven her skills while playing for Karnataka Women in the domestic circuit.

Veterans such as Tahlia McGrath, and Grace Harris have looked stunning in the 2023-24 Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) and they might rock the tournament for UP in the 2024 WPL. Sophie Ecclestone will look to be impactful again in 2024 and she will need Rajeshwari Gayakwad’s assistance to bolster the team’s spin-bowling unit. England’s Lauren Bell and the left-handed bowler Anjali Sarvani can form a pace-bowling duo and trouble the opponents.
