India’s tour of the United Kingdom (UK) starts with their tour of Ireland where they will play a couple of T20Is on June 27 and 29 respectively at The Village in Dublin. The Indian squad has already been put forth. The Men in Blue are currently in India and will depart for the series on June 23 as per a press release by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Recently, Cricket Ireland also announced their 14-man squad for the two-match affair. The team will be captained by Gary Wilson, who was also the skipper in the recently concluded T20I triangular series involving Netherlands and Scotland. Ireland finished at the bottom of the table with a solitary win in 4 matches and they have made a couple of changes to their team in light of the same.

Ireland’s eye to the future

Off-break bowler Andrew McBrine and fast-bowler Joshua little were drafted into the squad. They replaced Barry McCarthy and Craig Young. Little staked his claim back into the mix owing to strong performances for the  Leinster Lightning in the Inter-Provincial Series. McBrine has also been impressive with 6 wickets in his last 4 matches for the North West Warriors.

“The selectors have chosen what we believe to be a strong, in-form squad for this format of the game that balances experience with youth. Our deliberations were around finding a side that was competitive now, but with an eye to the future.” Andrew White, Cricket Ireland’s Chairman of National Men’s Selectors was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz while throwing light on the squad they compiled.

“We will continue our approach of providing opportunities for a wider pool of players to gain experience in T20 cricket on the international stage. With around 12 months to go to the World T20 Cup qualifiers, we are looking to build a competitive squad for that qualification stage and hopefully to propel us into the main tournament in 2020,” the Chairman added.

Here is the full squad

Gary Wilson (c), Andrew Balbirnie, Peter Chase, George Dockrell, Josh Little, Andrew McBrine, Kevin O’Brien, William Porterfield, Stuart Poynter, Boyd Rankin, James Shannon, Simi Singh, Paul Stirling, Stuart Thompson
