Who said What?
Mohammed Shami | Player of the Match: Got a lot of confidence after taking a wicket on the first ball. If your team mates are doing well, you should support them, it's important that the team performs well, I understand that. It was important to pick those late wickets, you always want your team to be the top side. Very happy that I got those wickets and India is on top of the table.
Tom Latham (Losing skipper): We played reasonably well. We didn't quite capitalize in the last 10. We left a little out there. But credit to India. We weren't able to get the double breakthrough with the ball. Rachin and Mitchell had a fantastic partnership to set us up for the last 10. We have a perfect group. We want to be in those positions. Rachin with the bat, Daryl with the 100. The bowlers did well. He played a fantastic innings. He controlled the tempo for them for others to bat around him. Just try to be proactive and focus on the matchups a little. Another good innings from him. We have a few days off. We have a day game here. We want to do good stuffs.
Rohit Sharma (Winning skipper): Good start to the tournament. Job is half done. Important to stay balanced. Not to think too far ahead. Important to stay in the present. Shami took the oppurtunity with both hands. He has the experience in these conditions and is a class bowler. At one stage, we were looking at 300 plus. Credit to our bowlers at the back end. I am enjoying my batting. Both are different personalities but we (Him and Gill) compliment each other. Happy that we won. Nothing much to say. He (Kohli) has done this for us so many years. He backed himself to do the job. Kohli and Jadeja pulled us back when we lost a few wickets in the middle. The fielding is something we pride ourselves on. Today the fielding wasn't clinical. Ravindra Jadeja is one of the best fielders in the world. These things happen. We know that fielding is something that will decide a lot of things going forward. We love travelling and playing in different parts of the game.
Mohammed Shami is the POTM
Mohammed Shami, who returned with a brilliant five-for today, gets the Player of the Match award. Very well-deserved. Such an outing for him tonight and he must be happy to contribute.
The revenge has been taken
India take the revenge and finally end their winning drought against the BlackCaps. The tears of 2019 semi-final, will now surely be wiped off.
INDIA win against the Kiwis in ICC tournaments after two decades
India lost won a game against NZ in an ICC tournament back in 2003 in South Africa. Then, it was the masterclass of Mohammad Kaif and Rahul Dravid, and today, it was the masterclass of the chase master Virat Kohli.
IND win against NZ, finally
Jadeja with the winning hit, and move to the top of the table with that victory. They win with 4 wickets and 12 balls to spare.
Mohd. Shami comes to the crease
Mohd. Shami, who shone with a five-for has come to the crease. Can he finish it with the bat as well?

Recap - Laser Light Show at Dharamsala
The beautiful laser light show at the picturesque HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala. The show was held during the drinks break after the 32nd over. The iconic song 'Vande Mataram' by A.R. Rehman was being played with the show.
Interestingly, on the very next ball after the show, KL Rahul was dismissed LBW by Mitchell Santner.

RECAP - The confusion that got SKY out
NZ waste a review
An appeal gets turned down as NZ take DRS. Hawkeye suggests its missing the wickets, and Jadeja survives. After 36 overs, India are 201 for 5.
Another boundary for Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja scores fours off consecutive deliveries.
Welcome boundary for INDIA
Ravindra Jadeja pulls one of the back foot to get a crucial boundary. Jadeja was quick to get into a comfortable position and hit that one through to the boundary cushions. And Virat Kohli's reactions say it all. When King Kohli praises your effort, it in itself is an approval that a batter has played a good shot. Nevertheless, Jadeja gets off the mark.

RUN-OUT
Bizarre moment in the field, and Suryakumar Yadav has to walk back to the pavilion. He will be gutted with himself, as there was some sort of mix-up between him and Kohli at the non-striker's end.
IND now 191 for 5 after 34 overs. Ravindra Jadeja comes to the middle.
They just keep coming for the chase master
A quick couple between the wickets makes Virat Kohli the highest run-scorer in this ODI World Cup so far. He has overtaken Rohit Sharma, who has 311 runs to his tally. Kohli has been a chase master, and this inning is yet another testament to the fact that he is arguably the greatest modern-day batters to have graced the game.

The play resumes
The players are back on the field, and the match resumes from where they left off.
DLS scenarios
If the chase becomes a 20-over affair, then the target as per Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method will be 124 runs. The par score as per the aforesaid method is 94/2 for India at the moment, so that means India are six runs ahead.
Bizarre stoppage of play at Dharamsala
The mist is causing disturbance in proper spread of light on the playing field. The umpires, batters and New Zealand skipper have decided that the lights are not ample enough for the game to continue, and hence, there is an interruption in the game.
The commentators on air said that a similar situation has happened in the past when Sri Lanka were playing, but it did not cause the play to stop. However, this time round, the situation seems very, very rare.
If DLS method ever comes into play, the par score for India at this stage would have been 94/2, which means that India are well ahead by six runs.
This is nuts. Fog/Haze stops play. I have never seen this in my life.#NZvIND pic.twitter.com/6Gvan6GmHk

The light is 'too low'
The umpires are discussing again. Fog or mist is disturbing a proper dispersion of lights on the playing field. Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer are discussing with the captain Tom Latham. The fielders and Indian batters are walking off, as there is a light interruption in the game.
Another boundary for Iyer
A boundary on the fourth ball of the 16th over brings up the 100-run mark for India. They need 174 more runs to win.
Glorious from Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer punches one to the off side, as Mark Chapman misfields and the ball rolls over the advertising cushions.
15 overs done
India are 91 for 2 after Santner's fourth over.
FOUR
Shreyas Iyer guides the ball to a boundary, as Matt Henry's chase goes in vain.
Bad lights, or fog???
There seems to be some issue with the lights, as the ground isn't amply lit for the game to be continued. The umpires are discussing.
Shreyas Iyer is in
And he gets going with a couple of boundaries. After 14 overs, India are 84 for 2.
Gill departs
Lockie Ferguson gets his second as Shubman Gill gets caught at third man. India are 76/2 after 13.2 overs.

Bowled
Inside edge, back onto the stumps. Lockie Ferguson strikes on his very first delivery. India are 71 for 1.
Rohit Sharma 46(40) b Ferguson
SIX, again
There's nothing stopping Rohit Sharma tonight, as he hits his fourth for the evening. After 11 overs, India are 71 for none.
Dropped
Skipper Tom Latham drops the catch of his counterpart Rohit Sharma.
End of the first powerplay
After first ten over, India are 63 for none.
Magnificent
Six from Rohit Sharma. He goes down the wicket, as the ball sails away into the crowd over long-off.
Cheeky from Rohit Sharma
The second ball of the over has been paddled away for a cheeky boundary by Rohit Sharma.
Just 1 run off the over
Santner bowls a cheap first over, as India are 53 for none after nine overs.
Mitchell Santner is in the attack now
Tom Latham introduces spin, as Santner comes in to bowl the ninth over.
50 up for India
Shubman Gill is now looking in good touch after a shy start, as he is scoring boundaries for fun now. Fifty partnership comes up between Sharma and Gill.
Seven overs done
India are 48 without loss after Boult's fourth.
Two balls, two boundaries for Shubman Gill
And with those boundaries, he is now the fastest batter to reach 2,000 runs in One-Day Internationals. Reaching the milestone in just 38 innings, he goes past Hashim Amla who held the previous record for the milestone in 40 innings.
The youngster from Punjab has started to rise through the ranks of many greats of the, and this surely isn't the end. Going at the pace, Shubman Gill will find himself as on the list of modern-day greats in a very short span of time.
5 overs done
India are 32/0 after Boult's third.
Elegant!
A straight shot from Rohit Sharma goes for a 79-metre six. He has taken Boult to cleaners with that strike.
Gill gets going
Through the covers and for FOUR. After four overs, India are 26/0.
3 overs done
India are 22 for no loss.
Edged (and fell short)
The ball slips between the legs of the first slip, as the ball races away to a boundary.
Two overs done
Rohit scores a four after a gigantic six, as India are 15/0 after two overs.
Hugeeeeeeeee
Rohit comes down the track and sends Matt Henry's fifth ball for a massive hit into the stands. My goodness, that's massive.
Indian batters survive the first over by Boult
Trent Boult, who has the knack of picking wickets in the first over, has given away four runs off his first over, as Rohit Sharma is watchful.
FOUR
Rohit Sharma is up and away with a boundary. Mitchell Santner dives but in vain.
Resume..!!
The Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill are out in the middle. As always, Trent Boult will lead the bowling attack for the BlackCaps. India need 274 to win inside 50 overs. Chase is on!
And with that we're in for the chase

Rachin Ravindra: "It took me longer to get to my rhythm. They made it tough for us to score. (Target) I think we looked at the 280-ish mark knowing the pitch was keeping low. They pegged us back nicely at the death. I think Jadeja and Kuldeep didn't get a lot of turn but the seamers were up and down with low bounce."
New Zealand's downfall
New Zealand were 4 down for 243. After that, they went on to lose six wickets for just 40 runs, thereby getting bowled out for 273.
Last five overs
India conceded just 28 runs in the last 30 balls, and took 5 wickets in the process. Despite Mitchell being at the crease for a majority part of these overs, Indians have managed brilliantly to restrict the opposition to 273.

Rachin Ravindra adds injury to assault
That was a massive strike from Rachin Ravindra, and he has now really started to take over.
After 21 overs, New Zealand are 100 for 2.
Rivaba reacts
Ravindra Jadeja dropped a sitter off Mohammed Shami. Seeing Jadeja drop catches is a rare sight, and Jaddu's wife, Rivaba, was also shocked to see him not being able to hold onto that one.
Currently, Rachin Ravindra, the batter who got a life, is making the opportunity count, as he has hit three sixes already, thereby adding injury to the assault.

This is what Dinesh Karthik tweeted moments before the game begins.
These are the kind of games INDIA wil miss @hardikpandya7
— DK (@DineshKarthik) October 22, 2023
I'm convinced they would've played with @ashwinravi99 looking at this pitch
But they would have to go to Shami because you can't go in with just 2 fast bowlers and the fact that DEW could play a part latr in the game
The Pitch Report is here
Pitch Report: “Least grass I've seen in Dharamsala, it will be on the slower side. What one must worry about is the dew, and how much dew comes on. It is a lot cooler here, so that will be a factor taken into account as well. This pitch will be on the slower side, but still a good wicket to bat on. Despite there being dew, teams though shouldn't be afraid to bat first,” say Ravi Shastri and Simon Doull at the centre.
We're minutes away now
We are just 15 minutes away from the coin toss, as the captains will be in a battle to call it correctly in the middle. For fastest updates, stay hooked onto CricTracker.
