POTM Nitish Reddy said:

"For me it's like a big contribution for my team and myself. I have been telling myself that I should believe in myself. Seamers were bowling really well, I didn't want to take on them. I knew that the spinners would come and I wanted to attack them, I just did that. The whole tournament, they are bowling slow bouncers and it's really working. I also used the dimensions. I just want to continue to perform for my team," Reddy said.

Winning skipper Pat Cummins said:

"Was a great game of cricket, they bowled really well at the start, we did well to get to 180. Got too close. Always tried to be positive. They bowled exceptionally with the new ball. With 150, you are going to lose nine out of ten times. We were pretty happy with 180. Conditions maybe (on taking the new ball). Bhuvi and I tried to take a couple of wickets with the new ball. (On Nitish) He was awesome, fantastic in the field, bowled three overs," Cummins said.

Losing skipper Shikhar Dhawan said:

"I feel that Shashank and Ashutosh played a great knock, we restricted them to a good total, but we couldn't cash in on the first 6 overs, lost 3 wickets and that's where we fell behind and it cost us in the end. When the wicket wasn't offering a lot of bounce, every individual will have to look back and change their approach. We dropped a catch off the last ball, we could have kept them down by 10-15 runs, but batting let us down. It's great to see youngsters chipping in with such consistency (on Shashank and Ashutosh). There was always hope that they could finish the game, but we got so close and that'll give us confidence going into the future games, but we'll have to do better going ahead," Dhawan said.

SRH WIN BY TWO RUNS

Brilliant over for Punjab but SRH had the last laugh as they won it by just two runs. What a finish. Shashank Singh hit it for a fix on the final delivery but couldn't get the job done for the hosts.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) are gearing up for their second home game as they are set to play Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Match 23 of the IPL 2024 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Mohali, scheduled for April 9, Tuesday.

The Kings, led by Shikhar Dhawan are coming off a nail-biting triumph over the 2022 champions, Gujarat Titans (GT), at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Speaking more of the contest, Punjab won the toss and invited GT to bat first. The Titans' side set a formidable total of 199 runs, thanks to a gritty knock of 89* off 48 balls from last season's Orange Cap holder, Gill. Kagiso Rabada stood out for PBKS, finishing with figures of 2/44.

In pursuit of their 200-run chase, Punjab confronted early setbacks, losing a couple of wickets within the powerplay. Yet, Shashank Singh, Punjab's 'mistake buy,' emerged as their savior, forming a vital 43-run seventh-wicket partnership with Ashutosh Sharma. The 32-year-old remained unbeaten throughout the innings, blasting 61 runs off 29 deliveries, steering PBKS to a thrilling three-wicket victory on the penultimate delivery.

In their latest showdown, SRH outplayed the defending champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by six wickets. Opting to field first after winning the toss, SRH restricted CSK to a reasonable total of 165 runs. Abhishek Sharma provided an explosive start, smashing 37 runs off just 12 balls, while Travis Head's pivotal knock of 31 runs off 24 and Aiden Markram's composed 50 off 36 guided them to successfully chase down the target with 11 balls to spare.

Punjab have so far played four matches, securing victory in two, whereas Hyderabad has also won two out of their four games. In their 21 encounters thus far, SRH have dominated with 14 wins, while PBKS emerged victorious on seven occasions. The upcoming clash is anticipated to be another high-scoring thriller in the ongoing season. Additionally, the pitch at the Mullanpur Stadium is renowned as India's fastest, offering bounce that benefits fast bowlers, while chasing becomes relatively easier on this ground.
