Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have been tremendous in the ongoing IPL 2024. The latter is currently on the top of the points table and will play Qualifier 1 but the same cannot be said about the Sanju Samson-led side. For them to finish in the top two, Rajasthan will have to wait and see how Sunrisers Hyderabad fare against Punjab Kings and if they win, the 2008 champions will have to beat KKR in their final league game of the season.
Notably, after winning eight out of their first nine matches, Rajasthan went on to lose four on the trot. Their middle order looked pale and that’s not a good sign ahead of the playoffs. With Jos Buttler left for international duty, they tried Tom Kohler-Cadmore at the top of the order but the move didn’t quite work out as he struggled to cope with the conditions. They are missing Shimron Hetmyer in the middle as Rovman Powell failed to live up to the expectations. Bowling looks good but there’s room for improvement.
KKR will miss the service of Phil Salt for the first time this season. Rahmanullah Gurbaz will replace him in the playing XI and his camaraderie with Sunil Narine needs to be seen. The surface in Guwahati proved to be on the slower side in the last match and so, the likes of Nitish Rana and Shreyas Iyer will be key for KKR. With the ball, Varun Chakravarthy has been incredible and will get a lot of support from the surface to wreak havoc once again.
Probable Playing XI of Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders:
Rajasthan Royals - Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Sanju Samson (wk/c), Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, Rovman Powell, Ravichandran Ashwin, Trent Boult, Sandeep Sharma, Avesh Khan, Yuzvendra Chahal
Kolkata Knight Riders - Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Sunil Narine, Venkatesh Iyer, Shreyas Iyer (c), Rinku Singh, Nitish Rana, Andre Russell, Ramandeep Singh, Mitchell Starc, Harshit Rana, Varun Chakaravarthy
