In the first ODI, Shai Hope won the toss and elected to field first on a stunning batting wicket. Three out of England's top-four batters scored half-centuries to put the home side in a position of strength. Jacob Bethell top-scored with a 53-ball 82, belting eight fours and five sixes. In the end, when the dust settled, England had 400/8 on the board in 50 overs.  

In reply, West Indies lost wickets in clusters and slumped to 124/9. Jayden Seales, who had bagged a four-for in the first innings, threw his bat around and scored an unbeaten 29 off 14 balls before the Caribbean side was bowled out for 162 in 26.2 overs. Jamie Overton and Saqib Mahmood starred with the ball, bagging three-fors.
