Former South Africa cricketer AB de Villiers recently underwent eye surgery and it has ended his hopes of returning to top level cricket. He announced his retirement from international cricket in May 2018 and despite a lot of speculations around his return, the man has never returned to play for South Africa.

De Villiers continued to play for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, he announced his retirement from all forms of the game in November last year. This time there were no chances of him returning to the sport but the recent eye surgery has ended any slim hopes of the same.

Coming back to AB de Villiers not making a comeback to the top level sport again, the man revealed it on Twitter live. He stated that he underwent the surgery due to retinal eye detachment while also confirming that there are no chances of him making a comeback to play the sport again.

De Villiers to return to Chinnaswamy stadium to thank RCB fans

During the same session, AB de Villiers confirmed that he will return to the Chinnaswamy stadium next year but not in the playing capacity. He wants to thank the RCB fans for their support during his IPL career. "I will return to Chinnaswamy next year, not for playing but to thank all the fans for the support over a decade," De Villiers said.

The 38-year-old is one of the top players in the history of IPL having featured in 184 matches in the T20 extravaganza. He scored 5162 runs at an impeccable average of 39.7 and a strike-rate of 151.7. De Villiers played a lot of match-winning knocks for RCB and South Africa as well and will remain one of the best players the world cricket has ever witnessed.

He played 114 Tests, 228 ODIs and 78 T20Is for South Africa scoring more than 18 thousand runs in his international career.
