Abishek Porel's breakthrough season with the Delhi Capitals (DC) continued on Tuesday as the young batter smashed a blistering 65 off just 36 balls to help set up a massive 222-run target against the Rajasthan Royals (RR).  The innings left DC assistant coach Pravin Amre all in praise for the upcoming player.

Being asked to bat first, Porel along with Jake Fraser-McGurk (50) put up 60 runs opening stand. Porel who was the Impact Player for the Delhi-based side, made sure to give his side a good and positive start.

“The first game against Punjab he did not even know till the 18th over that he would be playing a game, and he delivered a 9-ball 30 which was awesome,” DC assistant coach said after the match.

We thought to allow him bat up the order: Amre

Speaking about his exploits against RR, “You know, it is always good to see an Indian batsman perform. We were impressed with him in the nets, and he has shown that against the new ball, he bats very well. So we thought to allow him to bat up the order. He played a special innings today,” the ex-India batter further added.

On Tuesday, he took apart the Royals' vaunted pace attack, smashing Trent Boult for successive sixes and taking apart the spin duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin. In his 36-ball stay, he smashed seven boundaries and three sixes.

Speaking about David Warner's exclusion, “Warner is still not a hundred percent fit and that's why we sent Porel up the order,” the former cricketer further added.

Porel's 65 set the base for DC's big total of 221/8, which proved just enough as Sanju Samson's brilliant 86 nearly took the game away from the home side. The win keeps DC firmly in the playoff hunt in 5th spot with two games to go. The Rishabh Pant-led side will next face Royal Challengers Bengaluru on May 12 in M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
