James Peirson will be replacing Josh Inglis in the Australia squad for the second Test against England at Lord’s as the latter will be travelling back for the birth of his first child. Inglis will be joining the squad at a later date but the details of the same aren’t confirmed yet. Peirson meanwhile got rewarded for his immense hard work and consistency in the last three seasons of the Sheffield Shield.

Since the start of the 2020-21 campaign, the 30-year-old has hit 1337 runs at an average of 37.13 and also scored five centuries in the process. Thus, he is in terrific form at the moment but with Alex Carey available at the moment, it will be difficult for the cricketer to break into the playing XI.

Notably, Peirson represented Australia A recently on two tours and scored a century against Sri Lanka in 2022. He has been a part of the scheme of things for quite some time and was also training with the main squad in recent weeks and has finally got an opportunity to represent Australia in the upcoming Ashes 2023.

Meanwhile, just last year, the stumper-batter expressed his desire to play for Australia in the Ashes. He was determined and still remains to be so as he previously stated that it would frustrate him a lot if he ends up not playing Test cricket at all.

“Obviously there's an away Ashes next summer. I'd love to get over and play some sort of cricket in England. I've played premier league cricket quite a few years ago now but would love to experience those conditions again and develop my game. If I don't play Test cricket that would be a frustration, but all I can do is when I'm done, sit in my armchair and know that I did everything I could,” Peirson told ESPNcricinfo last year.

Numerous Australian players meanwhile will travel to England on Friday, May 26 and by Sunday, May 28, the team will have to submit its final squad of 15 members for the WTC final against India, which is slated to begin on June 7.
