Australian wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey has iterated that Australia will not be taking England lightly despite having an upper hand going into the third Test of the five-match series. The hosts have already gained a 2-0 lead after winning the first two Tests by eight wickets each.
Carey recollected how England had overturned a similar deficit in England during the 2023 duel to draw the series in the end. However, he disclosed that Australia were looking forward to potentially sealing the series by winning the next match.
"We know England are a very good team. We also understand we were in a position like this a couple of years ago in England. We weren't able to win that series, but we were good enough to retain the Ashes. We're really excited for the opportunity we've got, but we understand we've got to keep playing good cricket," stated Carey, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
The 34-year-old complimented Australia for adapting to different scenarios in the two matches so far. He reshared how there will not be any drop in intensity when it comes to taking on their arch-rivals in the near future.
"We are not looking too far ahead either. I think this playing group has been able to adapt really well, stay really present and again find ways to improve. We all know the threats that England pose, but for us to focus on our best stuff is a pretty good way to go about it. We're definitely not taking the foot off the gas at all," he added.
Australia have managed to keep their unbeaten record intact against England in home Tests after last losing during the 2010-11 series. They will be aiming to extend their streak as they are set to face off for the third match at the Adelaide Oval from December 17.
