Ashes ticket sales boost after heated England-India series

Cricket Australia feels the aggressive tone of the ongoing Test series between England and India will have a positive ripple effect on the demand for venue tickets of the upcoming, eagerly-awaited Ashes, which will commence later this year.
The national cricket association's chief executive officer Todd Greenberg commented on the same quite recently. He seemed to be quite excited about the contest where two age-old rivals compete in the historically rich Test series.
“It’s great, isn’t it? It’s great cricket (England vs India series for Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy) to watch as a fan. Everyone will have their opinion when our English friends arrive, I’m sure, and we’re looking forward to that very much. I love the way they’re playing their cricket and I can’t wait to see them test themselves on our shores,” stated Greenberg, as quoted by the Sydney Morning Herald.
Greenberg also shared that the pre-sale Ashes tickets have already doubled those of the previous Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The intense five-match series had received a gross footfall of 837,879. It was the highest attended red-ball event in the history of Australian cricket, apart from the Ashes.
CA has claimed that the opening day tickets for the five Australia-England matches across Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney are on the verge of being sold out. Tickets for Days 1–3 at the Gabba, Adelaide Oval, and SCG are also estimated to have reached a full crowd capacity, which is great as far as financials and fan interest is concerned.

Tensions have flared throughout the current series between players from both teams coming all-in at each other. The Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir’s recent run-in with Lee Fortis—the chief pitch curator of The Oval, has only added fuel to the fire.
The five-match Ashes series is scheduled to commence on November 21 later this year. The face off against Australia will come a few weeks after the white-ball series (three ODIs, five T20Is) against India comes to a conclusion.

The previous Ashes series between the arch-rivals ended in a 2-2 draw in 2023. That particular series was played in England. The last time England won The Ashes in Australia was way back in the 2010/11 season.
