Ravichandran Ashwin is currently leading the Dindigul Dragons in the ongoing Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL). The Dragons failed to qualify for the Playoffs last year as they finished sixth with just two wins from seven games. Ashwin's men have started brightly in TNPL 2023 as they made light work of Ba11sy Trichy in their opening game.

On the fifth ball of the 13th over, Ashwin appealed for caught behind off his own bowling and the on-field umpire ruled Trichy's R Rajkumar as out. The batter was unhappy with the call and he sent it upstairs for a review. There was a spike on the Ultra-edge but the third umpire deemed it as a bat hitting the ground. The on-field call was reversed as Rajkumar was given 'not out'.

Consequently, Ravichandran Ashwin wasn't happy with the call and he immediately signalled for another review. Interestingly enough, the commentator believes that it helped the TNPL garner attention globally.

"Ashwin anna's small matter has brought TNPL to the world map. He was bowling very well, had picked up a wicket, and there was an appeal for another wicket where the umpire gave it out," Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

"Ashwin and everyone were happy but the batter asked for a review. The third umpire was very good. He followed the protocol, checked all angles, and figured out that the ball had not reached the bat when the spike came because of the bat hitting the ground. Well done, he umpired very well and said it was not out," he further continued.

On the replays, there was a spike before the ball had reached anywhere near the bat. Also, after the ball went past the bat, there was a spike.

I feel when the TNPL officials look back, they will say that this option was not available: Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra revealed that he was bemused after watching the on-field umpire allowing Ravichandran Ashwin to counter-review the call.

"Ashwin said he wanted to review it again. He reviewed a review and it happened as well. It is beyond my understanding. I feel when the TNPL officials look back, they will say that this option was not available," the former Indian opener stated.

"You can't do it. There are multiple reasons for that - you need to take the review within 15 seconds. The review was taken and the third umpire told, with all due diligence, what his thinking was. Now you are reviewing the third umpire's thinking and asking him only to be the judge," Chopra concluded.

Meanwhile, the Dindigul Dragons eventually won the match by six wickets, chasing down the 121-run target in 14.5 overs. They will now face Siechem Madurai Panthers on Sunday.
