Prominent power-hitting coach Julian Wood will join Bangladesh in August. This development within the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) comes ahead of the Asia Cup to be played in September later this year. Wood is anticipated to join the setup for three weeks, during which he will be expected to improve the team's batters' range of shots.

The Bangladeshi cricketers will kickstart a preparatory camp for the eight-team tournament from August 6 at Dhaka's Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium. The 20-over tournament is scheduled to commence on September 9 in the UAE, and will be a dress rehearsal, keeping in mind the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2026. Wood's retention post the Asia Cup, however, is under doubts at the moment.

“Yeah, I'm talking to Simmo (Phil Simmons, head coach). Basically, I'm there for three weeks in August. That's what I've heard, but it's not confirmed yet. But it's more than likely. You obviously spoke to the BCB. In August, yeah (will be reaching Dhaka) prior to the Asia Cup. Don't know (after Asia Cup) as it depends on them (BCB) I suppose,” stated Wood, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

My job will be to give the team information: Wood

Wood, who has worked in the country before during his stint with Chattogram Challengers in the Bangladesh Premier League, spoke on his intentions with the new role with the national team and the challenges that come along.

“I think the key for me is there's a lot of talent there. They've always had talent. When it comes to white-ball cricket, striking the ball is obviously a major part of the game now. It (my job) will be to give them information and the key thing is how to use their power, how to generate their power, and use that power more efficiently,” added Wood.

Wood, who has played an instrumental part in transforming England's white-ball setup previously, is understood to be not the only one to be drafted into the Bangladeshi system. David Scott, who has worked with the High Performance Unit of the team, is also reported filling in the role as a sport psychologist.
