The Asia Cup 2025 is impending upon the Indian team, and they will be announcing their squad for the upcoming tournament on Tuesday, August 19. Multiple reports regarding several players have been surfacing on the internet, however, renowned commentator Harsha Bhogle is among the earliest to predict an ideal squad of the team India that should travel to the United Arab Emirates for the 2025 edition of the continental event.
First things first, the specialist batters in Bhogle's list includes the likes of Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma — the top two ranked T20I batters currently. Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav is also in the list, while his Mumbai colleague Shreyas Iyer has also found a spot. There were doubts over his participation in the tournament since he has been named in the West Zone squad for Duleep Trophy, but Bhogle believes Iyer should travel to the UAE.
Meanwhile, ace opening batter Sanju Samson has also been named by Bhogle in the squad. He will be seen opening alongside Abhishek and will also be the first-choice wicketkeeping option. As a backup option for Samson, the Hyderabad-born has also named the attacking Royal Challengers Bengaluru stumper-batter Jitesh Sharma. Notably, Jitesh has been with the Indian T20I set-up for quite some time now, and after a fantastic IPL with RCB, Bhogle has included the Amravati-born in the set-up.
Coming to the all-rounders, his three picks were simple and to-the-point, without any surprising omissions. Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar are the three choices put forward by Bhogle, which adds a lot of dynamism in the squad. There is obviously a name missing in the form of Nitish Kumar Reddy, however, the all-rounder has been recovering from an injury he underwent during the England tour, putting his participation in doubt.

Bumrah, Arshdeep, Prasidh complete Bhogle's pace trio
A bowling attack is the most crucial aspect of a T20 side, and to maintain a strong pace and spin combination from either ends, the 64-year-old has named Jasprit Bumrah to be seen at the upcoming multinational event. Multiple reports have suggested that Bumrah may rest himself to manage his workload crisis, however, Bhogle believes having the star pacer is the key to the Men in Blue's chances in the tournament.
The rest of the bowlers in the side also include Arshdeep Singh — the highest wicket-taker for India in the format. The left-arm pacer will be the strike bowler in case Bumrah doesn't make it through. Apart from Arshdeep, Prasidh Krishna has been named as the third specialist medium pacer. Among the spinners are Varun Chakravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi.
