Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has complimented Rohit Sharma's fitness overhaul amid talks over the behind-the-scenes work he has put in to shed weight. Rohit secured the Player of the Series award in the recently-concluded three-match ODI series against Australia.
Ashwin clarified that Rohit always had the talent with the bat. He also emphasized how optimal fitness, allows skills to take over in the most effective manner possible.
“Rohit is looking proper fit and lean, he is able to run and is getting going. The quality of batting is always there, but if you are fit, you lose weight, you are able to feel light, your skill will take over. Rohit is looking a million dollars. He is looking all set and poised,” stated Ashwin in a video on his YouTube channel.

The cricketer-turned-YouTuber also commented on Virat Kohli's 81-ball 74-run knock in Sydney. Having played with the star batter for over a decade, Ashwin admitted that while Kohli was not at his fluent best, his supporters would be delighted with his performance.
“I don't understand why some people did not expect him to score. He has been one of your best white-ball batters over the decade or so. I was always very confident that he and Virat would both make runs. Virat was not at his best, but still he found a way to get those runs. The straight-drive he played was a sight to behold. All his fans will be very happy today,” he added.
Rohit got the POTS award despite the fact that India lost the series by a 2-1 margin for his 202 runs across the three games, batting at a strike rate of 85.59, adapting well to the challenging conditions Down Under. He played an unbeaten 121-run knock off 125 balls comprised 13 fours and three sixes in the third match of the series, also engaging in an unassailed 168-run partnership with Kohli to take the Men in Blue through.
The Rohit-Kohli duo were returning to international cricket after a hiatus of several months. Having retired from T20Is and Tests, they are expected to feature next during the three-match ODI series against South Africa at home, in games across Vadodara, Rajkot, and Indore.
