AUS vs SA 2025: Aiden Markram, Temba Bavuma return to lead T20I, ODI squads

Cricket South Africa recently announced men's 15 and 16-member squads to take on Australia in their white-ball tour in August in the T20I and ODI series, respectively. Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma are finally back as captains of the respective squads.
Apart from Markram, Dewald Brevis, Lhuan-dré Pretorius, Prenelan Subrayen, Ryan Rickelton, Tristan Stubbs, Corbin Bosch, Nandre Burger, Lungi Ngidi, and Kagiso Rabada are common names in both the squads. Subrayen recently made his Test debut for the Proteas. Along with him, George Linde, Senuran Muthusamy, and Nqaba Peter are the spinners in the line-up too.
This is the left-handed Pretorius's first call-up to the 50-over unit. Brevis has been named in the ODI squad before, but is yet to make his debut. Both the players have impressed in their exploits, especially in franchise leagues, and will be confident of making a mark in the 50-over format as well.
Great to have seniors back: Shukri Conrad
Markram and Bavuma last played a T20I and ODI for South Africa in November 2024 and March 2025, respectively. Head Coach Shukri Conrad seems excited to have his seasoned players back after the final of the World Test Championship, where both the players played pivotal knocks to defeat the previous champions Australia.
“It’s great to have our senior players back in the mix after their rest following the WTC Final. Their experience and quality add real value to the group as we continue to build a strong core in both formats. Every series from hereon plays a part in shaping our squads for next year’s T20 World Cup and the 50-over World Cup at home in 2027," Conrad said in a statement by the association on Thursday, July 24.
