Australia dominated proceedings on Day 1 of the pink-ball Test after winning the toss and opting to bowl first at the W.A.C.A Ground in Perth on Friday, March 6. In the end, it was a riveting day of Test cricket, where both teams threw some heavy punches at each other but the Australian camp would be happier with how things transpired.

Alyssa Healy won the toss and opted to bowl first, which turned out to be a fantastic decision. The Australian pacers managed to swing and seam the pink ball in helpful conditions. Indian batters were put in all sorts of trouble but Shafali Verma played a gutsy 35-run knock under pressure.

Smriti Mandhana was dismissed cheaply, while Pratika Rawal failed to convert her start into a substantial score. However, Jemimah Rodrigues stood out with a fantastic half-century. She was eventually dismissed by debutant Lucy Hamilton.

Kashvee Gautam played an important knock down the order as her unbeaten 34 almost took India to 200 runs. The tourists were eventually bowled out for 198 in 62.4 overs. Annabel Sutherland and Lucy Hamilton bagged four and three wickets, respectively.

In Australia's first innings, the Indian pacers asked some difficult questions and Georgia Voll and Phoebe Litchfield were left searching for answers. Both openers departed for single-digit scores. Ellyse Perry looked nervy at the start of her innings but settled down afterwards.

Alyssa Healy was dismissed for 13 in what could be her second-last innings in international cricket. Alongside Perry, Sutherland remained unbeaten at Stumps as Australia reached 96/3 in 27 overs.

Top batting performance: Jemimah Rodrigues

Jemimah Rodrigues was the star of the show with the bat on Day 1. Facing the pink ball on a challenging surface was a difficult proposition but the right-handed batter didn't flinch. She scored 52 off 84 balls, hitting seven boundaries.

Annabel Sutherland could play a key role with the bat on Day 2 but on Friday, she had a remarkable outing with the ball. She used the favourable conditions to their advantage and bagged four important wickets. The star all-rounder finished with figures of 4/46 in 17 overs.
