Ayush Mhatre named India U 19 captain for Australia tour

Mumbai's Ayush Mhatre will lead the India U-19 side in the upcoming multi-format tour of Australia. The series is scheduled to begin on September 21. Mhatre recently captained the young group on their tour to England as well, where they played all formats of the game. India won the One-Day leg of five games, and drew the two-match Youth Test series to put up a strong show in their tour of the United Kingdom.
Mhatre, who played for CSK in IPL 2025,had forgettable 50-over outings on the tour. He was able to register only one double-digit score across five innings. However, he hit his stride in the four-day games, emerging as the leading run-scorer with an impressive 340 runs in four innings.
The 17-member team also includes the talented 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who displayed his wonderful prowess of power-hitting for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL season gone by.
India U-19 are slated to play five matches against the Australians. Three ODIs will be played at the Ian Healy Oval in Brisbane on September 21, 24 and 26. The 50-over matches will be followed by two four-day games. The first one will be played at the same venue as the ODIs (from September 30) and the second one will be in Mackay (from October 7).

There are four players missing from the squad that was picked for the recent England tour; Yudhajit Guha (among the stand-bys), Maulyarajsinh Chavda, Pranav Raghavendra, and Mohammed Enaan. The players to make their way into the side are Vedant Trivedi, Khilan Patel, Udhav Mohan, and Aman Chauhan.
The roster also includes the likes of wicketkeeper-batter Harvansh Singh Pangalia and off-spinner Anmoljeet Singh. Naman Pushpak and D Deepesh retained their positions. Apart from Guha, Laxman, B K Kishore, Alankrith Rapole and Arnav Bugga constitute the group of standby players.
