The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a short workshop in August for national cricketers, following the recent controversy involving veteran pacer Taskin Ahmed. The workshop is to educate players on their responsibilities, public image, and behavioral expectations as high-profile athletes.

On Monday, a General Diary (GD) was filed at the Mirpur Model Police Station against Taskin, accusing him of assault and issuing threats. The complaint was lodged by Sifatur Rahman Sourave, who is said to be a childhood friend of the cricketer. According to police reports, the alleged incident occurred on Sunday night near Sony Cinema Hall in Dhaka, where Taskin reportedly called Sifatur to the location, punched him, and made threats.

The matter is currently under police investigation. Officer-in-Charge Sajjadur Rahman confirmed that the case is being looked into and further details are being collected. Later updates revealed that the actual incident took place in the Asad Gate area, under Mohammadpur Thana, not in Mirpur as initially stated.

Reacting to the development, BCB media and communication committee chairman Iftekhar Ahmed stated that the board will refrain from taking any disciplinary action until the legal process is complete.

"Let Taskin be proven guilty first. There has been a case, and it will be followed by an investigation. It is beyond the cricket board now. Taskin says that he is not involved in it. Now police will investigate it as there has been a GD. There will be an outcome, and let's wait for that," said Iftekhar.

Players have some accountability towards their fans: Iftekhar Ahmed

Meanwhile, post this incident and the increasing spotlight on players’ off-field behavior, BCB has decided to organize a workshop in August. The session will focus on educating national players about their conduct, social responsibilities, and the expectations tied to their status as public figures.

"We are planning to hold a short workshop with national cricketers in August as we feel we must remind them what they can do and what they cannot, considering they are not only cricketers rather they are also idols of many youngsters and are being followed by the,m so they have some accountability towards their fans," he added.

Notably, the pacer responded via his official Facebook page, claiming the allegations were false and that the situation had been blown out of proportion. He requested fans not to believe circulating rumors and said the reality was different.
