The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Vice-President Rajeev Shukla on Sunday, September 21, confirmed that he has filed his nomination and announced that a panel has been formed with former Delhi cricketer Mithun Manhas as its candidate for the board’s president.
Addressing the media at the BCCI headquarters, Shukla revealed that former Delhi captain Manhas has officially submitted his nomination for the top post. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia also confirmed that the nomination was filed in his presence. Manhas is currently the sole candidate in the fray for the BCCI presidency, a position that has remained vacant since Roger Binny stepped down in August.
“I have come to file nomination. A panel is ready, with Mithun Manhas for the post of president, me for vice president, Devajit Saikia for secretary, Prabhtej Singh Bhatia for joint secretary and Raghuram Bhat for treasurer. There is a nomination for the names decided for the governing council. So, a new body is being formed for the next tenure. Good luck to all,” said Shukla.

According to ESPNcricinfo, another former cricketer is also set to join the board’s top brass, with ex-India spinner Bhat likely to be appointed treasurer. Bhat is currently the president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association.
Manhas, who turns 46 next month, has been actively involved in cricket administration. He is a member of the BCCI-appointed sub-committee overseeing the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA). Born in Jammu, he shifted from Delhi to Jammu & Kashmir in 2015 before retiring from professional cricket the following year.
Since retirement, he has taken up several coaching assignments, including stints with Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings, and Gujarat Titans, as well as serving as batting consultant for Bangladesh’s Under-19 team.
As a player, Manhas was one of India’s most consistent domestic performers. Between 1997 and 2017, he featured in 157 first-class matches, scoring 9714 runs. He also played 130 List A games and 91 T20s, amassing 4126 and 1170 runs to his tally, respectively.
His name reportedly came up during an informal meeting in Delhi on September 20, which was attended by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, Shukla, Saikia, Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) president Rohan Jaitley, and former BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah. The elections for various office-bearer positions, including the presidency, are scheduled to take place during the BCCI’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Mumbai on September 28, 2025.
