Gautam Gambhir is set to begin his coaching tenure with the Indian team during the upcoming white-ball tour of Sri Lanka. Ahead of India's departure to the neighbouring country, the former India cricketer was present in a press conference along with BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar.

During the press conference, the two former players spoke about how they are looking to shape the future of Indian cricket together. Gambhir, who will be serving as the head coach of a team for the first time, explained the importance of giving freedom to the players. He also hoped that there would be mutual trust between him and the players.

"I think important is to give players the freedom, that's what I absolutely believe in and not having a relationship which is of a head coach and a player. I think for me, the best relationship is a relationship which is built on trust and that is going to be very important. I can promise guys that they will always have my back," Gambhir said in the press conference.
