Former India opener Aakash Chopra wants Rajasthan Royals (RR) to consider playing Adam Zampa in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). RR and RCB will lock horns at the Sawai Mansingh Indoor Stadium in Jaipur on Sunday, May 14. It's practically a must-win contest for both sides in order to book a place in the playoffs.
Chopra feels that the team that would win the toss would most likely bat first in Jaipur. He noted that the Sanju Samson-led side have Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin in the spin department and that the Royals might employ Zampa as an additional spinner on the spin-friendly Jaipur pitch.
"This will be at the Sawai Mansingh - spin to win. Whoever wins the toss, will bat first. In spin, you will have Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravichandran Ashwin and probably Adam Zampa. Think about Zampa actually, Rajasthan," Chopra said while previewing the game on the "AakashVani" show on JioCinema.
Rajasthan is looking a little more balanced: Chopra
The former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter further stated that the Royals' top three batters play a part in the team's dominance. The 45-year-old then pointed out that Rajasthan appear to be more balanced, mentioning young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal's current form that has set the stage on fire.
"In batting, Yashasvi Jaiswal is doing well. Of course, Jos Buttler is playing beautifully and then you have got Sanju Samson. The top three will manage. They will manage in bowling as well. Rajasthan is looking a little more balanced and we have already seen Yashasvi's storm," he added.
RR's top three run-scorers in the ongoing IPL are openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (575), Jos Buttler (392), and skipper Sanju Samson (356). Their best bowlers have been Yuzvendra Chahal, who is in the race to win the IPL 2023 Purple Cap again, and Ravichandran Ashwin, as they have picked 21 and 14 wickets respectively. Meanwhile, Adam Zampa has grabbed five wickets in four games.
