Former Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik is eager to see what Rohit Sharma will bring to the ODI side as a specialist batter. Rohit's ODI captaincy was recently transferred to Shubman Gill ahead of the upcoming Australia series.

Karthik described how Rohit's explosive stroke play has been has provided solid starts to the team. He also commented that Rohit's selfless nature while batting has been a blessing for the team since a long time.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing Rohit Sharma the batter. When he's in form, he’s absolutely poetry in motion — especially in the powerplay, when he takes on bowlers fearlessly and sets up a solid platform for the rest of the innings. Rohit has evolved beautifully. He’s not just playing for milestones anymore — he’s setting the tone for the team. That kind of selfless intent has been refreshing to see. Even in that World Cup final, the way he batted up front showed what he brings to Indian cricket,” stated Karthik, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Karthik felt that the big hiatus from the Champions Trophy final and the first ODI of the Australia series will only mean that the top-order batter will come in with added resolve to make his opportunities count.

“I have no doubt that Rohit Sharma the batter will be extremely valuable. It’s going to be a World Cup in South Africa in 2027 — yes, it’s a long way away, but if he puts his mind to it, which he has, and continues working on his fitness, he’ll be ready. He’s going to come back after a bit of a break — something he probably hasn’t had in his career — and that will make him fresh and hungry again,” he added.
