Jason Holder has been acquired by St Kitts & Nevis Patriots as part of the trades and transfers before the Caribbean Premier League draft next month. This marks a historic development for Holder and Barbados Royals, the two of whom were associated with each other since the past 12 seasons.
The seasoned bowling all-rounder was a part of the Royals' squad since the inception of the CPL in 2013. Holder was also a part of two title-winning campaigns; 2014 and 2019 (as skipper). Holder secured 97 wickets in 104 matches (102 innings) at an economy of 7.80 and registered 1,169 runs (85 innings) at a strike rate of 129.60.
Sherfane Rutherford traded to Barbados
Sherfane Rutherford has joined the Royals in a trade deal with the Patriots in the same one which sees Holder and Alick Athanaze migrate the other way. Rutherford, currently representing Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League, was a part of Guyana Amazon Warriors from 2018 to 2020 before representing STKNP till last season.
Rutherford will join the likes of Rovman Powell, David Miller, Quinton de Kock, and Rahkeem Cornwal in the Royals. The 26-year-old had an abrupt end to his time with the Patriots in 2024, where it was reported that differences on certain levels between him and the management led to Rutherford getting forced out of the system.
CPL 2025 is scheduled to be held from August 14 to September 21. There will be no clashes with West Indies' international assignments as far as the 13th edition of the tournament is concerned. St Lucia Kings will come in as the defending champions.
