Okay People..!!

That's all we've got for you from this game between South Africa and Australia, where the latter emerged victorious by three wickets. They will now be seeing India in the final clash when both the teams collide on Sunday at the picturesque Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad. We'll be back for the final. Till then, see you. Goodbye and good night. Cheers..!!!

Nov 16 2023 10:36 PM

Pat Cummins speaks

"Easier than sitting in the dugout. Nerve-wracking couple of hours but great effort and a great game. We thought it would spin quite a bit. Wasn't expecting Starcy and Josh to bowl so much early. Bit gloomy, swinging around so wasn't too upset. [Fielding] Somethin we talk a lot about. Wasn't up to scratch at the start of the tournament. Davey, 37, diving around, incredible. And the big two up front were incredible. [Head] Has this knack of finding a wicket. Been different bowlers chip in through the whole tournament. [Inglis] Played that beautifully. He looked in control against two really good spinners on a tough wicket. The good thing is a few of us have been there for finals before. Got to embrace it, the stadium is going to be packed, pretty one-sided but got to embrace it. The 2015 World Cup was a career highlight, so to be out there in a final in India, can't wait."

Nov 16 2023 10:32 PM

Temba Bavuma speaks

"Quite hard to put into word. Congrats to Australia, all the best for them in the final. They were outstanding for a large part of the game and thoroughly deserved victory. [Fight] Our character came through. It was a dog fight. The way we stared with the bat and the ball was probably the turning point, we lost it quite badly there. [Collapse] Conditions and the quality of the attack. They were ruthless. Presented with the conditions but they really put us under pressure. We were gaining momentum at that point, we've seen how destructive he can be in the latter part of the innings. David Miller showed what he can do as a player and his mental capacity. Would have liked to have bowled better, it allowed the other batters to play themselves in. Shamsi was terrific, we were competitive but we needed a lot to go right. We had chances - tough chances - but we put them down. Could have been more proactive but you need things to go your way. [Coetzee] As a young guys he was a warrior. There wasn't much happening for him to bowl like that and get the wicket of Smith, get us back into the game. He kept on going until he was cramping. [De Kock] Outstanding tournament. Would have wanted to end on a different note, but he'll remember the fight we showed as a team. We've enjoyed playing with him, in SA he will go down as a legend of the game."

Nov 16 2023 10:24 PM

He surely won't fancy a personal milestone right now

Nov 16 2023 10:20 PM

Travis Head speaks

"Hard to unpack all of that. Tense finish, amazing game. [Surface] We knew how it was going to play. Having had three or four days here, you go to bed and think about it. The wickets have been unbelievable, haven't seen much spin but we knew it was going to be a grind. [Broken hand] Thought I wasn't going to be here, just want to contribute for Australia. [Klaasen ball] Straight as they come. I was under the pump, not sure how it got through. Seeing the wicket, was prepared to bowl a few overs. Always keen. We've had that positive approach, trying to get ahead of the rate. Disappointed to get out how I did, that's the match-up for me but it wasn't to be. [India] Unbelievable attack. Never dreamed of being in a World Cup final against the team of the comp so far."

Nov 16 2023 10:17 PM

Travis Head is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH

Travis Head gets adjudged the Player of the Match for his two wickets and a quickfire 62 runs with the bat. He surely contributed a lot in Australia's win.

INDIA vs AUSTRALIA it is..!!

Four, and Australia are through to the finals. Skipper Cummins ends the game with a four through the square region. The winless run for the Proteas in the ICC tournaments continues. Agony, real big agony. The Aussies have won by three wickets to go through to their yet another World Cup final.

Nov 16 2023 9:58 PM

Nov 16 2023 9:50 PM

Ganguly Jr in the crowd

A young little fan was spotted celebrating in the crowd in the iconic Sourav Ganguly fashion. He took off his jersey and swirled it like The Prince of Kolkata to give an iconic image for the fans at the Eden Gardens.

Nov 16 2023 8:34 PM

Excellent from Shamsi, Agony for Maxi

Tabraiz Shamsi was all pumped up after he dismissed Glenn Maxwell. He knows the importance of that wicket, and his celebration surely gives a hint of how crucial that wicket is at this particular juncture of the game. That's the second wicket for Shamsi in two overs, as he got the better of Labuschagne in his previous over. Australia have lost half their side now, and South Africa are well and truly back in the game.

WATCH SHAMSI's CELEBRATION AFTER THE WICKET HERE:

Nov 16 2023 8:28 PM

Two wickets in two overs for Shamsi

Glenn Maxwell misses the line of the ball completely. Attempts a pull, but the ball crashes right onto his leg stump. Fifth wicket is down for the Aussie now. Maxwell departs for just a run.

Nov 16 2023 8:25 PM

SA lose a review

Glenn Maxwell went for the reverse sweep, but the ball went straight into the hands of the keeper. There was a confident appeal, but the ultra-edge did not show any spike, as the ball went past the gloves.

End of 22 overs

Australia are 133/4 at the end of 22 overs.

Nov 16 2023 8:18 PM

Nov 16 2023 8:14 PM

End of the 21st

Nov 16 2023 7:55 PM

Confident appeal

The on-field umpire signals NOT OUT, as South Africa go up right away.

Nov 16 2023 7:12 PM

SIX off a NO BALL

Agony for the Proteas, as Rabada oversteps only to give a freebie to David Warner. The Free Hit ball too goes for a six, as the Aussie have scored a quarter of the runs requires in just more than 1/10th of the overs available.

Nov 16 2023 7:08 PM

SIXXXX

The last ball of the fifth over goes for a six, as David Warner flicks it over the deep mid-wicket region. AUS are 39/0.

Nov 16 2023 7:04 PM

Easy pickings for Head

Travis Head scores yet another boundary off Jansen to begin the fifth over. He follows it up with a dot, but grabs yet another boundary on the third.

Nov 16 2023 7:02 PM

Smoked..!!

The centurion has his say

David Miller, during the innings break, said,

Really big (importance of this knock.) Glad to get the hundred, but we want to win at the end of the day. Helped the team to score a decent score with those partnerships. Expected these conditions at the start of the match, but we were on the back foot after four down in the powerplay. Managed to put up a couple of partnerships (with Klaasen and Coetzee), think we fought hard. It's about watching every ball and staying in the moment, trusting your preparation. It's one-ball-at-a-time. We need to put them under pressure in the powerplay by taking wickets. It's about using the conditions, bowling in the right areas.

Captains at the toss

Australia captain Pat Cummins:

We would have batted first as well. But it is overcast and hopefully there's some swing early on. They play pretty similar style, unfortunately they have won a last few, we are due. We have been in these positions before. We have a lot of experience. We were not up to our best in those couple of games. But guys have been positive in the last seven games. Two changes for us. Stoinis and Abbott are out. Maxwell and Starc are in.

South Africa captain Temba Bavuma:

We will bat first. Not something I really dreamt of. We have come against a team like Australia in the semi-final. Means a lot to me, there's a game to focus on. Very important to stay in the present. Need to stick to our processes. Shamsi is in for Ngidi, Jansen comes in for Phehlukwayo.

Pitch and weather conditions

Pitch and weather: There's 36% chance of rain. 65m square boundaries, 75m straight boundaries. This is the same wicket that was used for England vs Pakistan game. Spinners have had a good time bowling here. Spin will win, speaks Matthew Hayden. Going to be tough to score runs as the spinners will get more assistance in the second innings. The captain winning the toss should bat first despite the overcast conditions, says Pommie Mbangwa.
