Former Indian cricketer Amit Mishra has opened up on Rohit Sharma's physical transformation and enhanced fitness level. The former India captain worked hard on his fitness during his four-month hiatus from cricket from June to October earlier this year. Upon his return, he looked in fine touch with the bat, and was adjudged the Player of the Series in Australia.

Mishra advised Rohit to not overdo the change in his physical routine and also explained how he should not look fit just for the sake of it and not pursue his fitness just to prove a point. Mishra, who has shared the dressing room with Rohit in India and Deccan Chargers, also commented on how the definition of fitness has changed in the modern-day era, and how athletes end up favouring quick results more often than not.

"Everybody's body is not the same. The type is different. Fitness is judged more on looks these days. To look lean. It's better to have a genuine body and maintain your fitness. Eat well, work hard, you will stay fit. Take care of your diet and do things naturally. Don't be fit to just look fit. There are many examples of those who made themselves look fit in short time, I'll not take names, but later, they've faced many issues with their body. It's better to have good sleep, eat well, do natural things. Go the gym, it's good, but also for running, go out on the ground," Mishra said via MensXP.

Furthermore, Mishra also went on to explain how Rohit was a fit person previously too. He recounted his own playing days, in which the erstwhile leg-spinner elaborated on how the 38year-old would play an active part while fielding in addition to batting.

"Rohit Sharma has made a comeback and is fit. He was fit before as well. I have played with him. People called him 'heavy' but I never felt that he was slow on the field or could not score runs. It was not like he would bat and go out, he would field as well and was active. Everyone has their opinion and perspective," he added.
