Sunil Gavaskar responded at RCB's slogan, 'Ee sala cup namde', following their maiden title win in the IPL 2025 by beating Punjab Kings by 6 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The former Indian cricketer felt that the 18th edition of the league witnessed a toned-down approach among the fans regarding their chances of winning the title.
The 75-year-old claimed that not everyone chanted the slogan like they did in the past, and felt it helped RCB big time. The cricketer-turned-commentator felt the slogan had become more of a jinx than something to support the team and the players. He felt the toning down of the slogan worked for RCB, as they won their first-ever title.
"This was the one year when that popular slogan—'Ee sala cup namde'—was more muted than usual. It wasn’t in everyone’s face like before, and maybe that helped. It almost felt like that slogan had become a bit of a jinx, and once it was toned down, things worked out," Gavaskar was quoted as saying by India Today.

He then wholeheartedly congratulated the Bengaluru-based franchise on their major achievement and claimed they played great cricket throughout the tournament. He noted RCB's performances in the last few games, where they chased 227 against LSG, beat PBKS in Qualifier 1 in a one-sided affair, and won the final despite posting a below-par total in his regard.
"Congratulations to RCB—they’ve played top-class cricket throughout the IPL. Especially their last 2–3 performances were outstanding: chasing 230+ against LSG, demolishing Punjab in Qualifier 1 in just 14 overs, and then keeping their nerve in the final despite being 15–20 runs short of a par score," Gavaskar added.
After being invited to bat first, RCB posted 190 runs on the board, thanks to useful contributions from Virat Kohli, Phil Salt, Rajat Patidar, Liam Livingstone, Mayank Agarwal, Jitesh Sharma, and Romario Shepherd. The Bengaluru-based franchise defended the target with the help of a collective effort from Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Yash Dayal, Josh Hazlewood, Krunal Pandya, Suyash Sharma, and Shepherd.
