A massive crowd gathered at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday, June 4, to celebrate Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) triumph in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025). The Rajat Patidar-led side defeated Punjab Kings by six runs on Tuesday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad to win their maiden IPL title. However, the celebrations were dampened by a horrific tragedy as 11 people lost their lives and almost 50 were injured when a stampede broke out.

As per the authorities, most of the people who died were young people, both men and women, and several among them were students. The honourable Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, said that the M Chinnaswamy Stadium has a capacity of 35,000 people, but 2-3 lakh gathered. Meanwhile, the police mentioned that around 50,000 people had gathered within a 1-km radius of the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Many tried to push through gates or climb over barriers to catch a glimpse of the players.

Former India cricketer Madan Lal slammed the RCB management, asking what was the necessity behind organising a victory parade in Bengaluru on Wednesday after they celebrated the triumph just the previous night in Ahmedabad.

“You celebrated in Ahmedabad the previous night. What was the rush to organize a grand event in Bengaluru the next day? Eleven lives were lost unnecessarily,” Madan Lal was quoted as saying by Herald Goa.

We didn’t make any request regarding the celebration to RCB and KSCA: CM Siddharamaiah

The celebrations inside the stadium came to an end in just 20 minutes after the organisers were informed of the unfortunate incident unfolding outside. Meanwhile. CM Siddaramaiah said that the government had no role in organising the event and mentioned that it was done by RCB and the Karnataka State Cricket Association.

“It is not us. We didn’t make any request regarding the celebration to RCB and KSCA. They organised this. We felt that the government should felicitate. Just because it was a Bengaluru team, we felt that we should be a part of the celebration. That’s all. We didn’t ask that we would do this but it’s RCB and KSCA who brought the team to Bengaluru for celebrations,” he said while speaking to reporters.
