Shubman Gill confirms Akash Deep's injury
In an unfortunate development, India have faced yet another setback, as Akash Deep will not be eligible to take part in the fourth Test against England. The pacer is facing a groin niggle, which has now ruled him out for the fourth match of the series. The game is set to be held at the Old Trafford, starting July 23, and on the eve of the game, the Indian captain Shubman Gill has confirmed regarding the pacer being ruled out of the must-win encounter for the visitors.
Anshul Kamboj likely to make debut
The chances of Anshul Kamboj making his international debut on Wednesday have amplified, as India are already without the likes of Nitish Kumar Reddy and Arshdeep Singh. However, Prasidh Krishna is also going to be an option to be pondered upon for the Indian management. Making an ideal team combination given Nitish Kumar Reddy's injury also keeps a place vacant for a likely inclusion of Shardul Thakur as well.
“Never easy when there's a bit of injuries going around in the squad. Nitish is gonna miss out the series and Akash [Deep] is also unavailable for this next match, and so is Arshdeep. But I think we have got enough good players in the team to be able to firstly get 20 wickets. That's been the most challenging part of the series. But I think, looking at the weather, it should be a good game,” Gill said during the press conference.
Rishabh Pant slated to play
Skipper Gill has also confirmed that vice-captain Rishabh Pant is fit and fine to take the field in Manchester, and will play as a wicketkeeper-batter. Notably, Pant had faced a blow to his finger during the Lord's clash, and Dhruv Jurel had to keep wickets for the rest of the game. With him back to don the gloves, it seems that Jurel might leave England without getting a game.
India squad for 4th Test: Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Sai Sudharsan, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Anshul Kamboj
