Yudhvir Singh, who has formerly served as Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA)'s secretary and director, has been appointed as India men's team manager for the England tour, starting mid-June. India are set to play five Test matches in a series that will mark the beginning of their World Test Championship (WTC) campaign for the 2025-2027 cycle.
Yudhvir, who is one of the directors at UPCA's board, will take on a new role in India's high-voltage face-off against England, which begins with the first Test at Headingley, Leeds, on June 20.
Despite reports of newly-appointed captain Shubman Gill's possible absence from the second warm-up game against England Lions in Northampton and speculation around KL Rahul stepping in, Yudhvir claimed he has not received such information yet.
“I have not received any information yet. Once the Indian Premier League (IPL) is done, we will figure out if there are any changes to the squad,” the senior administrator told Sportstar.
Shubman replaced Rohit Sharma as India's red-ball captain after the latter stepped away from the longest format on May 7, 2025. The Punjab batter became the 37th cricketer to be appointed Test captain for the country. He will have a relatively inexperienced squad at his disposal in the United Kingdom as the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin, Virat Kohli, and Rohit have retired, while Mohammed Shami hasn't been considered due to concerns over his fitness. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant will serve as Shubman's deputy.
Shubman's IPL 2025 numbers
The Fazilka-born was one of the most productive batters in IPL 2025. The captain of Gujarat Titans (GT) finished the campaign with 650 runs from 15 innings at an average of 50.00 and a strike rate of 155.88.
Under his leadership, the Titans finished third on the points table and faced Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator in New Chandigarh. The five-time champions posted a massive 228/5 before restricting Gujarat to 208/6. Shubman was dismissed by Trent Boult in the first over in the run-chase, and this turned out to be a big setback for the 2022 champions, as they eventually were knocked out of the tournament.
The 25-year-old will now shift his focus to the longest format of the game and aim at not only winning the England series, but taking India to the finals of the WTC's upcoming cycle with an inspiring brand of leadership.
