Rishabh Pant has time and again proven why he is regarded as one of the finest wicketkeeper-batters in Test cricket history by scoring important runs in home as well as foreign conditions. During the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, the Delhi cricketer has slammed two centuries and one half century, amassing 416 runs in five innings.
Former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary lavished praise on Pant, saying that the 27-year-old has a different approach to batting than most other cricketers. The cricketer-turned-expert recalled that Indian wicketkeepers have not been very successful with the bat. However, Pant is different from his predecesors and Tiwary believes that he could become the greatest wicketkeeper in history if he continues to play the way he has so far in his career.
“Rishabh Pant is unique, he has his own style of play. His thinking and approach are different to batters which causes an unpredictable contest between the batters and bowlers. He sometimes does throw his wicket which causes criticism but his success rate is high. If a wicket-keeper is contributing 100 runs, historically Indian wicket-keeper batters have not been successful with the bat," Tiwary was quoted as saying by NDTV Sports.
“We have had some great keepers like Adam Gilchrist, who was great behind the stumps and with the bat, in Indian conditions, we had MS Dhoni but I believe if he continues to play like this, he will go down as the greatest wicket-keeper in history,” he added.
Gill is in very good form and has made some technical adjustments: Manoj Tiwary
Tiwary noted that Shubman Gill, who has also been in exemplary form in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, has adopted technical changes to close the gap between bat and ball. The former Bengal captain also believes that the added responsibility of captaining the side has done wonders for the Punjab batter.
"Gill is in very good form and has made some technical adjustments. In earlier Test matches, he used to get bowled by incoming deliveries but he has worked on closing the gap between bat and ball. The benefit for that is he is able to play straight down the wicket. He is in control and in great form. It seems like he has added the responsibility of being a captain while batting. It is great to see a young batter lead the team,” Tiwari said.

Fans lambast Karun after peculiar dismissal in Lord's Test
While Gill was dismissed in the dying stages of Day 4 of the third Test at Lord's, Pant is yet to come out to bat. India need another 135 runs for a victory with six wickets in hand. Pant's knock is going to be crucial for the Asian giants as they hope to take a 2-1 lead heading into the last couple of Tests.
