Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah made headlines not only with the ball but also off the field, donating the shoes he wore during his Day 2 masterclass at Lord’s to the MCC Museum. The gesture came after Bumrah secured his 15th five-wicket haul in Test cricket, dismantling England’s middle and lower order in the third Test of the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025.
Bumrah’s fiery spell during the first innings of the all-important Test match saw him turn the game on its head within just seven deliveries. He dismissed Joe Root, Ben Stokes, and Chris Woakes in quick succession, reducing England from 251/4 to 271/7 in no time. He eventually finished with figures of 5 for 74, earning a place on the iconic Lord’s Honours Board.
With this fifer, Bumrah tied teammate Ravindra Jadeja for the most five-wicket hauls in the format by an active Indian player. Remarkably, this was also Bumrah’s second fifer of the series, following his match-defining effort in the first Test at Headingley, Leeds even though the game ended up in a losing way for the visitors. He was rested for the second Test at Edgbaston due to workload management, where India still managed to secure a historic win without him.
The Ahmedabad-born's performance not only helped India bowl England out for 387 in their first innings, but also etched another personal milestone and surpassed legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev to become India’s leading wicket-taker in England in the longest format of the game. Bumrah now has 47 wickets in the country at an average of 25.43, including four five-wicket hauls. He trails only Ishant Sharma, who has 48 wickets in 14 matches.
On the morning of third day, the visitors continued to assert their dominance with a commanding batting display. KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant stitched together a crucial 144-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Pant played an aggressive knock of 74 before being run out by a sharp direct hit from England captain Ben Stokes just before lunch. Rahul went on to complete a well-crafted century but was dismissed shortly after, falling to Shoaib Bashir for 100.
