The third Test between India and England at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground in London is delicately poised as the hosts need 135 runs to win while the tourists are on the lookout for six wickets. The winner will take a 2-1 lead heading into the last two Test matches at Manchester and London.
Chasing a target of 193 on a tricky surface, India lost four wickets in 17.4 overs in the final session on Day 4. KL Rahul remained unbeaten on 33 off 47 deliveries, while the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Karun Nair, Shubman Gill, and Akash Deep were dismissed. India find themselves at 58/4 at Stumps on Day 4.
Former India captain Anil Kumble believes that Rahul will hold the key for the Asian giants on the final day of the Test match. While some experts feel that the Karnataka cricketer will need to give the visitors a good start on Day 5, Kumble stated that the opening batter will not only have to start well but also anchor the innings till the end.
“KL Rahul is going to be the main man. If India is to go past this total tomorrow, he needs to be there till the end, not just give India a good start,” Kumble said while speaking on JioHotstar.
The former Indian head coach noted that Rahul had a scratchy start and was fortunate to get an early reprieve when Chris Woakes put down a catch. But after the let-off, Rahul looked far more assured at the crease.
“Early on, I thought he looked a bit like Joe Root, reaching out to the ball, and that’s when there was a chance offered to Chris Woakes. He was lucky to be dropped. But from that moment on, he started waiting for the ball to come onto him, and once he did that, he looked the part, just like he did in the first innings,” Kumble explained.
