India are trailing the five-match Test series against England 1-2 heading into the last two encounters. The talismanic Jasprit Bumrah played the first Test at Headingley and the third one at Lord's. In the second Test at Edgbaston, the right-arm seamer took a breather. Ahead of the series, head coach Gautam Gambhir had revealed that Bumrah would be available to play only three games as the management was focused on monitoring his workload, especially after he suffered an injury at the fag end of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-2025 after spearheading the bowling attack for most parts.
Former India wicketkeeper-batter Deep Dasgupta revealed that he heard Bumrah would be playing the first, third, and fifth Tests against England. However, the cricketer-turned-commentator urged the Gujarat speedster to rethink his plans as the fifth Test might lose a lot of relevance if India lose the fourth Test in Manchester.
"Jasprit Bumrah in the fourth Test, absolutely yes. I've heard rumors that the plan for him was to play in the first, third and fifth Tests. But now, when India are 1-2 behind, the fourth Test becomes very, very crucial. You would definitely want the world's best bowler to play," Deep Dasgupta told JioHotstar.
"There is an eight-day gap between the two Tests. It remains to be seen whether the fifth Test is still relevant after the fourth Test, but the relevance of the fourth Test is considerable," said Dasgupta.
How has Bumrah fared in Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025?
Bumrah picked up a five-for in the first innings of the Headingley Test. However, he went wicketless in the second innings as England chased down a 371-run target with five wickets to spare. In the third Test, the 31-year-old picked up his maiden five-for at the Home of Cricket in the first innings. In the second innings, he bagged a couple of scalps.
