India’s fourth Test against England at Old Trafford witnessed star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant suffer a painful foot injury that forced him to retire hurt midway through his innings. In the middle of all the uncertainty around Pant’s condition and his participation in the remainder of the Test, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka sent a motivating and heartfelt message to Pant and wished him a speedy recovery.
Pant, batting on 37 off 48 balls, was looking set during his 72-run stand with Sai Sudharsan. However, during the 68th over, in an attempt to reverse sweep Chris Woakes, the ball took an inside edge and hit his right foot. Though England reviewed for LBW, the ball hit the bat first. Meanwhile, Pant was seen in extreme pain and unable to put any weight on his foot. Despite on-field medical attention by the team physio, the wicketkeeper was eventually stretchered off the field on a buggy. Following this, the LSG owner shared the message.
"Wishing you a speedy recovery, Rishabh. You’re a fighter, and we know you’ll come back stronger," he wrote on X.

Sudharsan's update on Pant injury after Day 1 in Manchester
He was in a lot of pain definitely: Sai Sudharshan
Notably, after a horrific car accident in 2022 and a long rehabilitation process, Pant made a successful return to international cricket. Sudharsan, who stitched a crucial partnership with Pant, gave an update about the batter's injury.
"Can't see him playing much more part in this game. Oh, he was in a lot of pain definitely. But they've gone for scans. We will get to know [more] overnight. Obviously, he was batting really well. We will miss a batter if he doesn't come back again. So it will definitely have consequences. But, at the same time, the batters we have batting right now and there are a few more all-rounders inside, so we will try and give our best and bat long so that we negotiate that loss well," Sudharshan said during the post-day interview.
Despite the injury to Pant, India ended Day 1 at 264/4 after 83 overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal (58) and KL Rahul (46) gave a strong start with a 94-run opening stand. Sudharsan, playing his second Test, notched his maiden Test fifty (61). Meanwhile, captain Shubman Gill was dismissed for 12, and Sudharsan fell later to Stokes. Ravindra Jadeja (19*) and Shardul Thakur (19*) survived till stumps, putting the visitors in a decent position.
