Ace pacer Jamie Overton has been ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing One-Day International series between England and the West Indies. As the right-arm pacer broke his right little finger, he will be out of action for the two of the remaining games in the series.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed the news with a statement and also clarified that there will be no replacements made for the talented bowler, thereby the series will move ahead without any additions to their squad for the all-important series.
"England and Surrey all-rounder Jamie Overton has been ruled out of the remaining Metro Bank One-Day Internationals and the Vitality IT20s against the West Indies due to a broken right little finger," the ECB's statement claimed ahead of the second ODI of the series in Cardiff.
In their statement, the board further confirmed that Overton sustained the injury during the first ODI between the two sides at Edgbaston. The upcoming All-rounder will undergo a rehabilitation period under the supervision of the medical team of the home side. England is likely to play the players in the current squad, as no replacement for the right-arm pacer has been announced.
How did Overton fare in the first ODI?
"Overton sustained the injury during England’s first Metro Bank ODI victory at Edgbaston on Thursday. He will now undergo a period of rehabilitation under the supervision of the England medical team. No replacement will be added to the ODI squad," the release read further.
The 31-year-old played the first ODI at Edgbaston and fared decently with the ball. With the bat, the right-handed batter scored 1(3) and perished against the run of play. He was impressive with the ball as a first change and cleaned up the tail well.

Overton bowled 5.2 overs, and claimed 3 wickets, while conceding just 22 runs in his spell. Overton, who is yet to break out strongly in the international arena, impressed in Birmingham as he dismissed the likes of Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, and Gudakesh Motie, as the visiting side's innings never took off. His spell helped the home side to dismiss the visiting Caribbeans for just 162 to win by 238 runs.
