Former English cricketer Ian Bell has remarked that he would be surprised if Jasprit Bumrah would play only three Tests in the five-match series between England and India. The decision was finalised by head coach, Gautam Gambhir, after the completion of the series opener. Bell felt that "the best fast bowler in the world" should be in the XI provided if he is fit.

"I'd be amazed if he only plays three Tests this summer. He's the best fast bowler in the world, and if he doesn't play, England will be very, very happy. Of course, you want to protect him, but if the series is on the line and he's fit, he has to play," stated Bell, as quoted by India Today.

The former top-order batter advocated the inclusion of Kuldeep Yadav in order to complement Ravindra Jadeja in the spin-bowling department.

"Kuldeep is bowling beautifully. Someone who can spin it both ways is always a threat - especially to England's lower order. India will need to decide whether they want someone like Washington Sundar who can assist Ravindra Jadeja, or get Kuldeep Yadav, who is a much better wicket-taking option," added Bell.

The second Test of the series between the hosts and India has already gotten underway on Wednesday, July 2, at Edgbaston, with Bumrah rested. Speaking about the decision, India skipper Shubman Gill confirmed that the pacer was kept out to manage his workload and keeping him available for the third Test at Lord's.

"No Bumrah. Just to manage his workload. We did get a good break and this is an important match for us. But the third Test being at Lord's, we think there'll be more in that pitch so we'll use him there," Gill said after losing the toss at Edgbaston.

The Shubman Gill-led outfit lost the opening match by five wickets at Headingley as England were successful in chasing down 371 in the fourth innings. A stunning 149 from Ben Duckett was one of the main reasons why they could get to the total with ease. The left-handed batter, who scored 62 in the first innings, was also awarded the Player of the Match award.
