During the high-voltage Qualifier 2 clash between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Gujarat Titans (GT), wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan walked off the field with a hand on his eye in the first innings. Notably, the incident occurred when Ishan and Chris Jordan were walking past each other, and the latter’s elbow brushed off the keeper.
With this, Ishan was seen in pain and walked out of the pitch with his hand in his left eye. Meanwhile, Vishnu Vinod substituted Ishan behind the stumps for the remainder of the innings. However, it remains to be seen if the explosive stumper-batter will take the field in the second innings of the crucial contest.
Notably, the defending champions concluded with a humongous first innings score, courtesy of Shubman Gill’s blazing ton. The flamboyant GT opener clobbered as many as ten sixes and seven fours in his 60-ball 129 and concluded with a jaw-dropping strike rate of 215.00.
Gill record’s third IPL ton
With his scintillating knock, Gill became the third cricketer to slam three centuries in a single season of the IPL. Virat Kohli (2016) and Jos Buttler (2022) are the only other cricketers with four centuries in a single season in the top-tier league.
In addition to this, Gill also smashed the highest-ever score in the history of the IPL playoffs, as the previous record was held was Virender Sehwag, who scored 122 off 58 balls in Qualifier 2 of IPL 2014. Impressively, the GT opener also eclipsed Faf du Plessis’ impressive numbers in the ongoing competition and clinched the IPL Orange Cap with his blistering 129 runs.
Gujarat will look to come all guns blazing and make their place in the summit clash of the lucrative T20 league. In addition to this, the Hardik Pandya-led side will also be eyeing to spoil CSK’s party in the finals and add a second consecutive title in the IPL 2023. However, it remains to be seen if the five-time winners, Mumbai Indians make a strong case during the chase and put up a tough fight.
