Gujarat Titans (GT) flamboyant opener Shubman Gill’s lethal hitting exploits were at full show during the Qualifier 2 match against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday, May 26.

Following the early dismissal of Wriddhiman Saha for just 18 runs, Gill wreaked havoc as he quite comfortably took the rival bowling unit to the cleaners with his monstrous sixes. Impressively, it was during the 12th over of the first innings when Gill took the crowd by storm, as he single-handedly smashed 20 runs off Akash Madhwal.

Madhwal, who recorded the joint-most economical figures in the history of the top-tier league in the previous fixture against LSG, was no match for the flamboyant GT batter. In the first ball of the 12th over, Gill launched one over the leg side in a grand style for what marked the start of his carnage.

In the next delivery, Madhwal’s short ball outside off was dispatched over mid-wicket, landing comfortably into the stands. Similarly, the nightmare further continued for Madhwal in the penultimate ball, as Gill smoked a full-length delivery over mid-wicket to complete 18 runs just on the back of maximums.

Courtesy of his blitzkrieg, Gujarat saw a massive tilt in momentum which kept them in the driver’s set throughout the course of the first innings. Gill outmuscled the rival bowling unit and maintained his purple patch with his devastating knock which earned massive praise even from the Mumbai players.

Defending champions eye berth in IPL Final

Hardik Pandya and Co. will look to cement their berth in the summit clash of the competition against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Notably, the defending champions have maintained their form from the previous season and produced some exhilarating cricket in the ongoing edition.

However, a loss against the yellow outfit in the Qualifier 1 handed them another chance of making it to the finals with their clash against Mumbai in the Qualifier 2. The defending champions will look to come all guns blazing and aim to add a second title on the trot in the IPL 2023.
