The 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy was truly a roller coaster ride for the fans. After India dominated the first two Tests of the series in Nagpur and Delhi, Australia made a resilient comeback in the third Test. The final game resulted in a draw, which handed team India the series win.
Following the end of the series, 26-year-old Matthew Kuhnemann was one of the best performers for the Aussies. He was brought in to the side in the second Test and he even picked a fifer in Indore when Australia registered a marvelous victory.
Recently, Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja made a promise to Kuhnemann. After his debut in Delhi, the Australian spinner went to Jadeja to ask for some bowling tips, to which Jadeja replied that he would be giving him the tips after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy gets concluded.
As the fourth Test came to a close, Kuhnemann revealed that Jadeja gave him some helpful tips and that he is a man of his word. "It was probably about 15 minutes, he [Jadeja] was just giving me some awesome tips; we talked about everything," Kuhnemann was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
"He gave me some good tips for the next time we're in the subcontinent, and some tips to go back home with as well. He was really nice, and just said any time to reach out and even sent me a message on Instagram, so that was pretty cool," he added.
He was pretty much like a big brother: Kuhnemann on Nathan Lyon
Apart from Kuhnemann, 22-year-old Todd Murphy also made his Test debut for Australia. Both players performed exceptionally well alongside veteran Nathan Lyon, who was one of the highest wicket-takers of the series.
Kuhnemann also came forward to talk about the impact that Lyon has had on both him and Murphy. "Nathan Lyon took myself and Todd under his wing from the get go, he was pretty much like a big brother to us over here," Kuhnemann said.
"I think we're very lucky to have Gaz and his experience to learn off. I'm ready to get back in the nets, get back in there after speaking to Jadeja. I'm really keen to tinker with a couple of things, trying to just keep improving my skills and play as much cricket as I can," he added.
