Kris Srikkanth believes that Varun Chakaravarthy is going to cause all sorts of problems for the England batters, especially captain Harry Brook in the T20 World Cup semi-final on Thursday, March 5. The high-voltage clash is set to be held at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Chakaravarthy has picked up 12 wickets so far in seven games at an average of 15.33. He needs two more wickets on Thursday to become the leading wicket-taker in the tournament. While his overall performance seems quite outstanding, a closer look will showcase his shortcomings in recent matches.
In the first four group games, he bagged nine wickets. However, in the three Super 8 matches, he has bagged only three wickets and conceded runs at an economy rate of 10.17. Despite the abysmal returns of late, Srikkanth has backed the mystery spinner to have a field day against the England batters.
"He has got hit the last few matches. But he'll easily packet the likes of Bethell and Banton. Harry Brook will charge down the wicket and get stumped to him. Varun has picked Brook up many times. Brook will charge every ball even before Varun bowls and get dismissed each time," Srikkanth predicted while speaking about Varun Chakaravarthy's upcoming battle with the England middle-order batters.
England's explosive opening pair of Phil Salt and Jos Buttler haven't been very consistent in the tournament. Especially, Buttler's form has been concerning. Srikkanth opined that the former England captain is restricting himself and not playing his naturally aggressive game. While talking about Salt, the former India opener mentioned that he would be better served if he looks to play straight instead of going across the line.

"How the England openers handle Bumrah will be crucial. I believe Buttler will try to play freely. He has been getting out by playing too restrictively and not playing his natural game. Phil Salt is playing too much across the line. He has to play straight."
