'How can you say fixer!' - Stump mic captures heated chat between Gambhir and Sreesanth during LLC game

The Eliminator game between Gujarat Giants and India Capitals in the Legends League Cricket 2023 on Thursday, December 07 landed in controversy as former India cricketers Gautam Gambhir and S. Sreesanth got involved in a heated conversation during the game. The incident took place after the end of the sixth over of the first innings which was bowled by Sreesanth.

The right-arm seamer leaked 20 runs off his first two overs and was going back to his fielding mark when he had a verbal spat with his former India teammate. Following the incident, Sreesanth revealed that Gambhir called him a fixer which eventually led to their fight. A short clip from the match has been going viral where a part of a conversation between Gambhir and Sreesanth can be heard through the stump mic.

Notably, Sreesanth was handed a life ban by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) for his involvement in the spot-fixing scandal during the IPL 2013. However, the Supreme Court reduced it to seven years in 2019 and the 40-year-old also made a return to the domestic circuit after his ban ended.

In another video posted right after the match, Sreesanth addressed Gambhir as ‘Mr fighter’ and accused him of disrespecting even his senior players such as Virender Sehwag. His wife Bhuvneshwari has also come out in support of her husband and called Gambhir’s behaviour ‘shocking’ for stooping to this level despite playing with Sreesanth for a number of years for India.

Meanwhile, Gambhir has stayed silent amid the controversy and uploaded a picture of himself smiling wearing the Indian jersey. He captioned the post ‘Smile when the world is all about attention!’. Notably, the former India opening batter has been in the headlines for being involved in several on-field battles with the opposition players during his player days.

He was also involved in an argument with star batter Virat Kohli during match 43 of IPL 2023.
