England pacer Jofra Archer is ruled out of the upcoming English summer due to a recurrence of his elbow injury. He initially missed 17 months of cricket before making his return earlier in the year during the inaugural edition of the SA20 league and things were looking smooth before his elbow issue aggravated again while playing for Mumbai Indians during the ongoing Indian Premier League.
Speaking about Jofra’s injury, his England teammate James Anderson has stated that he is absolutely gutted after hearing about the news. Anderson mentioned that Jofra had worked really hard to make his return to Test cricket and hopes that his injury isn’t harsh enough to keep him out for a long period of time.
“Jofra had a tough few years. With the elbow niggle keeps coming back. I am absolutely gutted. I know how much he worked hard to try and get back fit. Now, I just hope it isn’t too bad and he can’t actually get back. I hope he comes back as soon as possible,” Anderson said while talking to Sky Sports.
“When you see someone struggle with the same sort of injury, recurring injury, I think it’s only sensible to try and manage your workload, whether that’s just playing one format or two formats. I think that’s probably the sensible thing to do but that’s something he will have to work out with the coaches going forward,” Anderson added when asked if Jofra should focus on only one format going forward.
Gutted for Olly Stone as well: Anderson
England pacer Olly Stone suffered a hamstring injury which can keep him out for a significant period. The pacer is expected to miss a couple of matches of the upcoming Ashes 2023 if not the entire series. Talking about him, Anderson mentioned that Stone was bowling really fast in the county championship and that he is also gutted knowing about Stone’s injury.
“He has had quite a few injuries in the last few years. I actually faced him at Trent Bridge a couple of weeks ago and he was bowling as quick as I have faced in any cricket in the last few years. So, again, gutted for him,” Anderson mentioned.
