Legendary Australia cricketer Sir Don Bradman is considered the greatest batter to have played the game courtesy of his mind-boggling numbers. Bradman boasts a staggering average of 99.94 in Test cricket having 6996 runs to his name from 80 innings with 29 hundreds and 13 fifties. The New South Wales-born cricketer had the most hundreds, double hundreds (12) and most triple hundreds (2) to his name at the time of his retirement.
However, despite Bradman’s extraordinary numbers, former India cricketer Atul Wassan feels the Australian legend doesn’t count among the greats. Recently, while speaking to a news channel, Wassan argued that Bradman never played in the subcontinent like other great batters and batted only in England and Australia in his entire career.
“I don’t think Don Bradman is great. He played only in two countries of similar conditions (Australia and England). If he had played in the sub-continental conditions in Sri Lanka, Pakistan or India, only then a fair analysis (could have) been drawn,” Atul Wassan told India News.
“So, when you compare Don Bradman with the players like Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar, you realise that he was not as great, of the very high stature as he is portrayed in history," he added.
Bradman averaged over 100 in England
Notably, Bradman played against four oppositions of his time namely England, West Indies, India and South Africa. However, he played his entire career in Australia and England only. In Australia, he played 33 matches and scored 4322 runs at an average of 98.22 with 18 hundreds and ten fifties.

In England, he played 19 games and scored 2674 runs at an average of 102.84 with 11 hundreds and three fifties to his name. Bradman’s career came to an anti-climatic end as he needed just four runs in his last innings to end his career with an average of 100, however, he unfortunately got bowled for a duck.
